By strengthening resource cycles through innovative technologies, promoting material efficiency and continuously developing efficient economic processes: this is what A|U|F stands for – a cooperation between system suppliers, fabricators and suppliers within the aluminium industry. A|U|F was founded in 1994 and reactivated as an association in 2010. The alliance of German metal construction companies, system suppliers and other businesses organises a closed material cycle for aluminium in the areas of windows, doors and façades.
For resource-efficient material cycles
Aluminium scrap from production processes as well as dismantled elements is reused: old aluminium windows, doors and façades, together with corresponding composite products such as wood-aluminium windows, are processed into new products. In 2021, around 75,000 tonnes of aluminium were recycled in this way. The material remains within the European Community and its recycling systems; it is not exported outside Europe. This strengthens regional value chains and supports an efficient material cycle. The process also complies with the requirements of the German Circular Economy Act and the Federal Government’s Resource Efficiency Programme (ProgRess).
Through targeted information activities, A|U|F raises awareness of the recyclability of aluminium and the benefits of closed material cycles. The activities of A|U|F are not profit-oriented.
“A|U|F offers us opportunities for exchange between members, workshops and initiatives relating to the sustainability of aluminium. This enables us to further expand both our expertise in this field and our communication activities. The responsible use of aluminium is a shared responsibility for us with future generations in mind,” explains Arnd Brinkmann, Managing Director of GUTMANN Bausysteme GmbH.
